From happy smiles to curious faces, there are plenty of social animals up for adoption this week!

If you feel the need to have another furry companion, consider taking home one of these animals up for adoption. When choosing a pet, please consider your lifestyle first before taking home one of these animals. With help from the local shelters, we've compiled a list of the cutest pets available in Maryland. Check out this week's adorable options!

Maryland SPCA | Baltimore

The Maryland SPCA is a great organization that can be found at 3300 Falls Road, Baltimore, MD 21211 – contact them at 410-235-8826 if you have any questions about the pets. Check out their adoption policy here! And don't forget to check them out on Facebook!

Chotu, 7

Chotu, Shitzu

Consider taking this love bug into your family! He's a laid-back guy who loves to snuggle up with his humans and would do best in a home with no younger children. Chotu is a very social dog who adores both other animals and people and would be a natural social butterfly in the group. He is in a foster home because he needed to have some surgeries; he does have some special requirements such as only feeding him his food watered down so it is easier to eat. Consider him here!

Jack, 4

Jack, Cat

Looking for a confident pet? Jack is your man – he knows how awesome he is! Just don't confuse the confidence with cockiness because he really is a sweet guy! Jack is a very social cat who loves to be the center of attention and to roam around the house checking out the parameters. He really does have an affectionate side, too. Make him a member of your family, here!

Animal Care Shelter for Kent County | Chestertown

The Animal Care Shelter is the local shelter for Chestertown, Maryland, and can be found at 10720 Augustine Herman Hwy, Chestertown, Maryland, 21620. Contact them at 410-778-3648 if you have any questions. Check out their adoption policy here!

Brianna, 6

Brianna, Dog

Courtesy of Animal Care Shelter for Kent County

This special girl has come a long way since coming to the shelter. Brianna is a timid dog who hasn't known love her whole life so it is important that you shower her with affection and be patient with her as she slowly comes out of her shell. When she got to the shelter, she had a fear of doorways, did not know how to walk on a leash, and did not have much confidence in herself, and over time, she has conquered many of those fears – she walks like a champ now! Brianna needs to stay in a quiet environment with older children and other quiet dogs where she can become comfortable enough to shower you with love in the right environment for her. Bring her home here!

Callie, 14

Callie, Cat

I hope you like lazy cats because Callie's a couch potato – her favorite activities are napping or lying around. Callie loves being a lap cat, getting scratches and attention, and lounging around observing the place. She has a special job at the shelter as being the paperweight – she loves it! Callie loves to be as close to her humans as possible so you won't have to go looking for her. Check her out here!

Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center | Derwood

Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center is an amazing shelter that cares for homeless, abused, and neglected animals. You can find them at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road, Derwood, MD 20855 -- you can call them at 240-773-5900 if you have any questions. Hemingway, 1

Hemingway, Dog

If you love to take daily walks in the morning and are in need of a good workout buddy, Hemingway is your man! He is a very active and playful boy who enjoys walking, hiking, running, and playing with toys to his heart's content (a mixture of two of these activities would fit just nicely). His other favorite activities include car rides, exploring the neighborhood or park, and making new friends (meaning dogs)! Take him to his permanent home, here!

Tina, 10

Tina, Cat

Tina loves to be wrapped up in the purrfect purrito – I mean, how adorable! She is a very laid-back girl who prefers snuggles under a blanket, sniffing around to discover something new, and making biscuits! Tina is a very loving cat who would not require much work. Take her home, here!

Baltimore Humane Society | Baltimore

Found at 1601 Nicodemus Road, Reisterstown, MD 21136, the Baltimore Humane Society strives to offer a temporary home or refuge for abandoned or unwanted pets! Call them at 410-833-8848 if you have any questions about their available animals. Check them out on Facebook and their website!

Jett, 1.5

Jett, Dog

Jett is like a dream dog. Seriously, they don't get any better than this! Jett is hyperactive so he will require a daily walk, hike, or run. Jett is a very easy dude to train; you just have to keep a handful of treats on you because he is food-motivated! There is only one catch – Jett will need to be the only animal in your life, and everyone in the home must be over 18! Check him out here!

Midge, 4

Midge, Cat

Don't be fooled by the look on her face – it doesn't say, "Get away from me;" it says, "Please love me forever!" Midge (that name, my goodness) has a gorgeous long black mane that will need to be brushed weekly in order to reduce matting and to keep it as soft and as fluffy as possible. According to staff, she is a bit shy at first but is a love bug once she warms up to you. Take her home here!

SPCA of Anne Arundel County | Annapolis

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is the local shelter for Annapolis, Maryland. Visit them at 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, or call them at 410-268-4388. Also, you can check them out on Facebook and their website!

Bobbie Girl, 10

Bobbie Girl Dog

Courtesy of SPCA of Anne Arundel County

Yes, she is a beagle, and yes, she is true to the breed because all she wants to do is explore her world via her nose. And even though she may be stubborn, as long as you have treats on hand, Bobbie will do what you say. Don't be fooled by her age – she has the energy of a young pup and will be more than happy to go on a nice jog with you but will also be the laziest couch potato ever. Although she is social with humans, she is not social with other animals and would do best as the only pet in your home. Take her home, here!

Josephine Braley, 12

Josephine Cat

Courtesy of SPCA of Anne Arundel County

Josephine is a part of a bonded pair with her sister Daphne who have both been at the shelter for over a year now. The staff does not understand why they have not been adopted yet because of their sweet nature and willingness to cuddle with their humans! When you go and visit her, Josephine will come right up to you and greet you as soon as you open her cage. Make her your cat here!

Baltimore Barcs Animal Rescue and Care Shelter | Baltimore

Baltimore Barcs Animal Rescue is a wonderful shelter in Baltimore that can be found at 301 Stockholm St., Baltimore, MD 21230. Call them at 410-396-4695 if you have any questions. Check them out on Facebook and their website, and take a look at their adoption policy here!

Not much is said about this happy-go-lucky guy, but he sure is smiling big for the camera. He is an older guy but appears to have the energy of a younger pup so be sure to exercise him daily! See him here!

Leggo, 2

Leggo Cat

Have you seen a cat that is goofier than Leggo? I know we haven't! Not much is said about this girl, but based on the way she is sitting in the left photo, Leggo would be the life of the party. If you are looking for a cat that will keep you entertained for hours, consider taking her in, here!

Did we pick your future best friend? Do you plan to head on over to the shelters to adopt? Tell us in the comments.
