Life on the open road can be hard, especially on your car! I think it's fairly safe to say that we all know someone who has bumped or scratched their pride and joy (or had it damaged by someone else!), and we all know someone who says, "I can fix that; it's easy."
The truth is, however, that automotive body work is extremely challenging and very labor-intensive. It also requires a special set of tools that don't come in your no-name "mechanic's tool set" that you got for Christmas -- and no, you can't run down to Home Depot and sneak them into your cart.
More importantly, proper auto body repair is essential to maintaining the safety of your vehicle. If an incident has bent your frame, it can alter your suspension geometry, and I doubt if your neighbor can safely stretch your frame back into spec. Yet, some people still take the MacGuyver route, and sometimes you can't help but laugh at the results they end up with.
Here are 10 of some of the worst DIY auto body repairs, and I think it goes without saying that these are terribly unsafe:
