VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A shooting late Friday night resulted in the death of two Virginia Beach police officers, according to the department. Police say the incident began as a traffic stop near the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Wendfield Drive at around 11:30 p.m. A spokesperson told 13News Now the department is now investigating the incident which "resulted in the tragic loss of one of our own and the serious injury of another." The second police officer who was injured later died from his injuries Saturday morning. "We are devastated to confirm the deaths of two of our officers, who were shot in the line of duty late last night," the Virginia Beach Police Department said in a social media post . There's no word on any suspects at this time, but VBPD says there is no perceived threat to the public. This is a developing story and will be updated.
