(KMAland) -- The Martin Blog Winter Sports Preview series continues with a look at Missouri River Conference boys basketball.

Sioux City East won their second straight conference championship. It was also their fifth in the last eight years. Let's take a look at what this year's group looks like.

The Martin Blog Winter Sports Preview series is brought to you by Malvern Bank.

Preseason Player of the Year: Creighton Bracker. The Abraham Lincoln standout had five of a possible six votes here. Bilal Yusuf and Manasse Kasongo-Malu both had one vote each for Sioux City East.

Preseason Coaches Poll: Here’s a look at how the coaches see the league going. I asked each coach to rank the top five teams in order of finish without ranking their own team.

Notes: Seven of the eight coaches were able to find the requisite time to send in this year’s survey. The other is the busiest bee in all of the land. In fact, I believe 122 of the 123 coaches that received the survey in KMAland Iowa responded. If you add Missouri and Nebraska, that’s another 64 out of 64. I really do appreciate those that did send in information — 186 out of 187 ain’t bad. Someone said that once.

Anyway, Sioux City East is the favorite by the coaches, landing six of the possible six first-place votes. Abraham Lincoln got the other and are second. The next tier is SBL, Heelan and LeMars with West, North and TJ in that final tier.

Sioux City East is the heavy favorite here with all that they have returning, and their history of success. Abraham Lincoln is also picked second with SBL and Heelan flipping in the KSPT. North is up a bit higher than on the coaches side, and the final three are just bit different.
