CHARLESTON, S.C. — There’s no greater challenge in college baseball right now than roster continuity, and the degree of difficulty ratchets up even higher when you have a coaching change. It’s become the default assumption that any time there is a coaching change, you have to start the roster-building process from scratch.

That wasn’t the case at South Carolina this offseason, however. Paul Mainieri took over the program and he was able to hold things together well.
