HOUSTON ( KIAH ) — Three Houston Astros players have moved to Phase 2 of the voting process for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, held on Tuesday July 16 in Arlington, Texas. Second baseman Jose Altuve, designated hitter Yordan Alvarez and outfielder Kyle Tucker each have moved on at their respective positions as finalists for the American League. The three Astros join the Baltimore Orioles as the only AL team with more than three players on the final ballot. Altuve, an eight-time All-Star, led the Astros with over 1.9 million votes. He will now face Texas’ Marcus Semien in the next round of voting. Altuve would join Hall of Fame players such as Rod Carew and Roberto Alomar with his sixth All-Star start. Alvarez, who made the All-Star Game in the last two seasons as a reserve, could get his first start if he can get past Baltimore’s Ryan O’Hearn in the second round of voting. Yordan is hitting .288 with 17 doubles, 16 homers, 41 RBI and an .876 OPS in 77 games this season. Kyle Tucker is among three other outfielders (Juan Soto of the New York Yankees, Steven Kwan of the Cleveland Guardians and Anthony Santander of the Orioles) to get two of the starting outfielder spots since Yankee outfielder Aaron Judge earned a spot by being MLB’s most vote-getter in the first round. Tucker, a two-time All-Star who has never started, has been in the AL MVP conversation this season, hitting .266 with 11 doubles, 19 homers, 40 RBI, 10 stolen bases and a .979 OPS in 60 games. However, he has missed the last few weeks with a right shin contusion. The second round of All-Star voting begins Sunday on MLB.com other MLB platforms and continues until 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3. The starters will be revealed on ESPN that night. The rest of the All-Star rosters will be announced on Sunday, July 7.
