2906 M Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20007
Located in the stylish shopping-friendly neighborhood of Georgetown, Hu’s Shoes and Hu’s Wear have become the destinations for curated luxury finds. Marlene Hu, the owner of both shops (situated across the street from each other), travels to high-fashion destinations like New York, Milan, and Paris to handpick the selections for her store. She works on finding the best styles for her customers -- a boldly creative vision that emphasizes uniqueness and impeccable quality.
Hu’s collection consists of ready-to-wear designer pieces, shoes, handbags, and accessories. The moment you walk into the store you’ll receive highly-customized customer service, and the store takes great care to maintain the same customers over the years. It’s also a pleasant place to shop with clean, minimal décor and a few eccentric accent pieces, like a bright rug or interesting print.

Proper Topper is an adorable little shop off of
Dupont Circle. Originally, owner Anna Fuhrman opened it as a millinery store, specializing in funky hats, but since its beginning in 1990, the store has expanded to selling clothing, accessories, and décor. It’s still family-run, with Anna’s husband and 11-year-old daughter each playing a part in making sure the business operates smoothly.
Everything about this store is just cute. The moment you walk in, you’re surrounded with interesting and bright knick-knacks. If you were looking for the perfect Washington, D.C., print, coffee table book, or trinket to add to your home, you’ve come to the right place. It’s also a great spot to pick out gifts for your friends or others visiting town.
You can also shop for cute summer dresses and accessories like beaded necklaces, locally made earrings, edgy cuff bracelets, and more. And if you’re headed to a garden party or want to pretend you’re part of the British royal family, you’ll be able to pick out a
fabulous hat.
Shop online
here, but make sure to stop by the store as well for the most authentic experience.
