Zeke's Coffee
In our opinion, a conversation on craft coffee isn't complete without mentioning Zeke's. They buck industry conventions by air-roasting their beans in small batches—10-30 pounds instead of the typical 150—resulting in the freshest flavor and taste. Swing by their cafe for all-day breakfast or grab some coffee to go. We recommend The Charm City Blend, a hodge-podge of different beans mixed with their signature Italian Roast. Non-Baltimore residents can get their caffeine hit at their Pittsburgh and D.C. cafes.

This eclectic cafe offers a peaceful respite from the usual chain coffee shops. They serve organic, fair-trade coffee air-roasted to perfection along with a variety of beverages like espresso, hot tea, and kombucha. Craving caffeine? Patrons can go bottomless with a $3 small or large coffee. Local art adorns the walls for a cozy ambiance, including from countries like Guatemala and Ecuador, where they source their beans. They also welcome meetups, so bring your next book club or sewing circle to their cafe!

Rise Up Coffee Roasters
Former Peace Corp member and coffee addict Tim Cureton started Rise Up in a dilapidated trailer. Now with seven locations across Maryland and Delaware, they've become the go-to ethical coffee roaster. Their St. Michael's location is the OG spot, featuring a double-sided drive-thru and full food/drink menu. Try any of their signature roasts or treat yourself to their coffee smoothie, available in flavors like white mocha and caramel!

Vigilante Coffee
Vigilante comes from the Latin word "Vigilare," or "to keep awake," which is a fitting name for this socially-conscious cafe. They infuse this philosophy into their small-batch brews and attractively-minimalist coffee shops across Maryland and D.C. Visit their Hyattsville roastery for perk-you-up coffee standards, like espresso and cold brew, bagels, and antioxidant-packed acai bowls. Their sustainable beans can also be found in College Park and a pop-up at D.C.'s Eastern Market on Sundays.
