Some of you may not know this but it’s a great time to be fan in D.C. Normally there’s a focus on Cherry Blooms and the many other Spring activities, but there’s big time major sports activity going on in the city.
Re-route your GPS to the Verizon Center because the Washington Wizards and the Washington Capitals are in the midst of playoff activity, and believe it or not they’re both really good teams. Here are the 5 reasons why you should make a trip to Chinatown to support the area club: Like I said, they’re both really good. While the Capitals have clinched the Presidents’ Trophy with NHL’s best record for the second straight year, the Wizards finished the regular season just one win away from 50. The last time Washington had 50 wins they were playing in the NBA finals nearly 40 years ago. That’s a good omen!
The stars in D.C. Both clubs are loaded with star talent. The Wizards have All-Star guard John Wall and rising star Bradley Beale. The Capitals have future hall of famers Alex Ovechlin and Nicklas Backstrom. Both the Wizards and the Capitals have star-potential supporting casts.
New jerseys. Yeah, well… it’s true. Both teams are sporting new garbs. The Wizards have a red ensemble that is a must-see piece. It’s a retro look. Recently, the basketball team has been trying to resemble the old Washington Bullets, a team successful team in the 70s and 80s. Meanwhile, the Capitals have discarded their traditional hockey jerseys for ones resembling football jerseys. The team looks more like the Atlanta Falcons than the loose-sleeved team of old.
