Gas up the RV!

As I stare out of the western facing windows of our office building, I'm convinced there's no better place in the world to have an RV than right here in Colorado. After all, it's the state that inspired the song "America the Beautiful," so you know it's worth exploring -- and there's no better way to do that than in a rolling vacation home. With that said, here are five campgrounds that make a great base camp for all of your adventures.

The Views RV Park & Campground

The name is pretty self-explanatory, but this western Colorado spot is great for exploring the four corners, Mesa Verde National Park, and it's close enough to Cortez where you can stock up on supplies. If you're a fan of western desert landscapes, this is the place for you.

Pagosa Pines RV Park

If your mountain adventures (i.e., hiking, biking, climbing, etc.) make you sore by the day's end, you might want to consider staying at Pagosa Pines RV Park. Located just outside of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, it's a short drive into town where you can soak in the mineral-rich waters of the hot springs.

Gateway RV Park

Located near Carbondale, Colorado, this is the perfect place for mountain bikers, hikers, and those just looking for epic scenery. Don't forget to drop by town and sample some high-end hooch at the Marble Distillery. It's trendy, but it's worth it.

Elk Creek Campground & RV Park

If you've never been to Rocky Mountain National Park, then you should. We know it's busy, but it's busy for a reason – it's breathtaking. That's why you should make your base Elk Creek Campground. Here, you're close to the park and Grand Lake, so you choose what the day's activities hold. You're also likely to see some big game roaming around, so use common sense and respect their space.

Sand Dunes Swimming Pool & RV Park

Beautiful views and not far from the Great Sand Dunes National Park, this campground is an excellent option for families looking to get out of town a little bit.

What are your thoughts? Do you have any campgrounds to recommend? If so, let us know!
