COOS BAY Ore. (KPTV) - On Wednesday a 6.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of Oregon in the Pacific Ocean.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported it happened 180 miles west of Coos Bay around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

Earthquakes are not uncommon off the Oregon coast, but this one is notable for its size.

Most earthquakes recorded in the Pacific off Oregon’s coast are about half that magnitude.

The earthquake was also relatively shallow, at about 6 miles below the earth’s surface.

No tsunami alerts have been issued and no people have reported being affected.
