The first show at the new multimillion-dollar Virginia Beach entertainment center, The Dome , will be: Three Dog Night. The iconic band, best known for songs such as “Joy to the World” and “Mama Told Me (Not to Come)” will headline the venue’s May 4 grand reopening at Atlantic Park. Three Dog Night was the last band to perform at the auditorium in 1993 when it was the Alan B. Shepard Convention Center. Anyone who can show a ticket stub from the 1993 show will receive a free ticket from Live Nation to the May 4 reopening concert. After forming in 1967, Three Dog Night became one of the most successful bands of the 1970s with 21 Top 40 hits on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart . Two of the band’s original musicians, lead vocalist Danny Hutton and guitarist Michael Allsup, are still listed as active members of the group on its website . The Dome is part of the city’s $350 million Atlantic Park project on 20th Street. The venue features an indoor music hall and an outdoor amphitheater with a combined 5,000 seats and is expected to host 100 events a year.
