CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Several people are in the hospital after a deck collapsed at a west Charlotte home Saturday afternoon.

Medic confirmed it happened around 2 p.m. at a riverfront home along Hadlow Court, near the Berryhill Nature Preserve. While it's not known how or why the deck collapsed, Medic said 9 total patients were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Of those patients, Medic said one person had life-threatening injuries and another person had serious injuries. The remaining seven patients had minor injuries. Further, three people also declined to be taken to the hospital.

WCNC Charlotte has asked the Charlotte Fire Department for further information, including any insight the fire marshal may be able to provide.
