Residents thought there was a burglar, but nope, just a moose. Napping.
A guest of some Breckenridge homeowners heard glass breaking and thought there was someone sneaking into the home. They quickly called the police. The false alarm was the result of a moose taking a spill down a window well and making the best of the situation by crashing in one of the bedrooms.
After getting a quick glimpse of how the humans live, this moose will now be relocated to prime moose habitat in Grand County. Window well covers are a great way to keep unexpected visitors away from (or out of) your home! Learn more at https://t.co/yA6zZOqP4R pic.twitter.com/EfIBPae4ew

With the help of @BreckPolice and @RWBFire, our officers made the plan to tranquilize the moose and get her back into the wild. She was moved from the basement through a tight stairwell and taken to a waiting trailer, where the tranquilizer was successfully reversed. pic.twitter.com/soapWAhAWt

The district wildlife manager, Elissa Slezak, described the scene in this statement:
"It appeared that the moose had been walking around outside the house in deep snow when it fell into a window well, then crashed through the window into a basement bedroom. The call originally came in as a burglary, but once responding officers saw the moose, they called us in to take the lead. When we arrived, the moose was actually pretty calm and didn’t appear to be injured by the fall or the broken glass, so we immediately made a plan to remove her safely from the house."
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers were able to tranquilize the moose and, with the help of local law enforcement, successfully moved it back outside. Both the moose and the residents made it out without any major injuries. The moose was eventually released in Grand County.
This comes soon after another moose fell into a window well and had to be rescued earlier this week in Keystone. Apparently, moose are pretty clumsy creatures.
