Starting Monday night and throughout Tuesday, the St. Louis area could see waves of rain showers, with later rounds of the storm system potentially producing threats like isolated thunderstorms and hail.

Most in the region can expect “a good soaking rain,” based on a Monday overview from the local forecast office for the National Weather Service. The event could bring half an inch to one inch of rain in total, said Mark Britt, a NWS meteorologist.

“This entire system does not look like a significant severe weather outbreak,” said Britt. But he added that the storm carries some “potential to produce isolated severe weather.”

Any severe threats around St. Louis are most likely to happen Tuesday evening, from about 6 to 8 p.m., Britt said Monday. Around that time, he said forecasters “cannot rule out a tornado, but it is a low chance.”

Then on Wednesday, widespread strong winds will become the area’s main weather hazard with the potential for any disruption. A wind advisory is in effect for that day, with sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph expected, and gusts reaching around 45 to 50 mph, Britt said.
