Acoustical Sheetmetal is expanding its footprint in Virginia Beach for the third time in six years. The company plans to invest $45.8 million to expand its operations in Innovation Park and add 350 jobs, Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced Friday. Founded in 1994, the company manufactures sound-reducing and weather-protective enclosures for on-site power generation equipment, mainly for the data center industry. It employs just under 500 people, including 182 at its Production Road facility. The expansion — on 21 acres of land purchased from the city — will total 250,000 square feet. The project includes a 100,000-square-foot fabrication facility, 100,000-square-foot finishing facility, 20,000-square-foot service facility and 30,000 square feet to connect the fabrication and finishing facilities. The company said it anticipates that the fabrication and finishing facilities will be constructed and operational within the next five years. Acoustical Sheetmetal CEO Margaret Shaia said in the announcement that the expansion will continue the company’s strategy as a leader in power generation integration. “ASC will continue to provide opportunities for leadership development and expanded skills training driving enhanced standards of living for our dedicated workforce,” she said. The growth will bring Acoustical Sheetmetal’s presence to more than 550,000 square feet of production space — making it one of the largest enclosure manufacturers in the U.S., according to a news release. The project received financial assistance in the form of a $1.75 million grant from the Commonwealth’s Development Opportunity Fund, a $921,000 land purchase discount from the city of Virginia Beach and a cash grant of more than $828,000 from the Virginia Beach Development Authority. Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer said in the news release that the company’s continued growth will make them one of the city’s major employers and further solidifies the city as a hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation.
