The online rental company is tightening restrictions over house party booking in its system.
Airbnb is cracking down on bookings for house parties. In recently released data, the company reported that it had banned 2,600 bookings in Denver that they suspected were for house parties. The company believes they may have also prevented a large house party during All-Star Week.
Airbnb has specific criteria for renters, and those looking to book locally are held under more scrutiny. If you're under 25, renting close to where you live, and you either have no positive reviews or have no prior booking experience on Airbnb, you will be blocked from renting that local spot. The ban only affected metro Denver and not the surrounding suburbs.
It sounds tough, but it's an important step Airbnb is taking to ensure there are no unauthorized house parties taking place that the host would not know about. Airbnb acknowledges that many of the 2,600 Denver locals banned from booking last year may not have been planning to throw a party.
Anyone under 25 who lives in Denver and is looking to rent in Denver will have an alert about Airbnb's guidelines. The site will then guide them to locations that they can book. There is good news, too. If you're under 25 and looking to book outside of Denver, Airbnb will let your booking go through.
The company didn't always have guidelines in place to crack down on parties. The ban was announced in August 2020, primarily for COVID-19 safety. The company plans to keep the ban in place until the end of summer and re-evaluate its guidelines.
