ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy held a mayoral briefing in the Alexandria City Council Chambers on Jan. 30, where he addressed agenda items from the city council’s Jan. 28 meeting, alongside topics like public safety, infrastructure and future events in the city.

The mayor addressed some cost-saving measures for Alexandria’s electric utility.

The mayor then shifted towards a rebuke of KALB’s questions.

Mayor Roy also addressed the question we posed regarding the two separate incidents occurring at Academy Sports + Outdoors. The first one involved a juvenile attempting an armed robbery and another was a deputy-involved shooting . Both incidents occurred within six months of each other.

While the second incident solely involves the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, since Academy is in city limits, KALB asked Mayor Roy and Alexandria Police Chief Chad Gremillion about safety measures moving forward.

The mayor chose not to answer the question that dealt with the city avoiding to mention Carl Blackburn’s death by hypothermia due to extreme temperatures on Jan. 9. KALB reached out directly to the mayor via email to ask for a statement on Blackburn’s passing and reached out to the city for confirmation of his death. Despite the lack of a response, the question persists: W hy was Blackburn never mentioned by the City of Alexandria?
