Rocky Mountaineer, a Vancouver-based company that offers luxury train experiences, has announced that its "Rockies to the Red Rocks" train tour will take passengers on a scenic journey between Denver and Moab, Utah, starting next summer.
The two-day, one-way trip includes a one-night hotel stay in Glenwood Springs and treats travelers to amazing views as it winds along the Colorado River through Western Colorado and Eastern Utah. The company touts highlights of the trip, including Ruby Canyon, Mount Logan, and the Continental Divide, which the company said are best viewed by train.
During the Denver-Glenwood Springs leg of the journey, passengers will experience the Gross Reservoir Dam and the famous Moffat Tunnel, a railway tunnel built in 1928 that cuts through 6.3 miles of mountainous terrain. Onboard hosts also periodically will tell stories about the region, and passengers are encouraged to take photos of both scenery and wildlife, such as bighorn sheep, bears, mountain lions, deer, and marmots.
The Glenwood Springs-Moab portion of the trip will treat passengers to views of desert cliffs and amazing rock formations as well as Parachute Creek, Mount Logan, and De Beque Canyon. Red rock formations and sandstone cliffs, including Mount Garfield, provide additional opportunities for photographing stunning scenery capped off with a glimpse of Arches National Park.
Trains feature oversized windows, glass-dome windows, and an outdoor platform for optimal viewing of scenery. The company's onboard services include a welcome toast, gourmet breakfast, and lunch each day featuring locally sourced and inspired ingredients and menus, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and morning and afternoon snacks. An onboard newspaper provides a map and preview of upcoming scenic opportunities and points of interest.
The company also offers an upgraded SilverLeaf Plus package that provides additional seating space, an additional dining course with meals, and signature cocktails.
The trip can be booked either eastbound or westbound. Pricing starts at $1,250. Additional packages can be purchased that add dining options, additional nights in Denver and Moab before and after the trip, and transfers to Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell, Salt Lake City, or Las Vegas for longer trips.
The route is scheduled to be available from August to October 2021 as a preview season, with a full season schedule planned to start in 2022.
Rocky Mountaineer has been serving Canada for 30 years, with three rail routes in Western Canada that include Vancouver, Kamloops, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper National Park, Quesnel, and Whistler.
