AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo High Lady Sandies are on the hunt for their first state championship, but first, they have to make it out of the regional semifinals, where they will face Birdville on Friday. The Lady Sandies took care of business in both the bi-district round and the area round, shutting out Abilene, 2-0, and defeating El Paso High, 5-2. Amarillo High head girls soccer coach, Stacy McPherson, says she’s confident in her teams ability to make it to the next round. “Just watching film, we will match up with them well and I do believe we can beat them and we should be in the regional final next week,” said McPherson. “As much as I know, I believe we will be playing next week. We’ve got to show up and play as well as we have the last two games. So, you know, at this level, you know, this far in the playoffs, there’s no having a bad off day. We’re going to go out there and we’re going to play our game and we’re going to not back down. We’re going to press them and we’re going to compete.” Amarillo High is looking to make history again. If they get the win, they will make it back to the regional finals for just the second time in school history. Their last appearance was back in the 2020-21 season. Kickoff is set for three at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls, TX.
