MORNING HEADLINES | Millions gathered over the weekend at ‘No Kings’ events to protest the actions and policies of President Donald Trump. Dozens were held across South Carolina, with one protest in Charleston’s Hampton Park on Saturday drawing more than 1,000 attendees. Few disruptions were reported at the protests, which ranged in tenor from joyful to defiant. The coast-to-coast protests, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the formation of the United States Army and President Donald Trump’s birthday parade in Washington D.C., decried the Trump administration’s overreach and heavy-handed immigration tactics. The protests in South Carolina went on with no reports of violence or acts of destruction despite earlier concerns and a warning issued ahead of the events by S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson. Thousands converged at the Statehouse in Columbia, and thousands more across public spaces in more than a dozen cities across the state. At the Hampton Park event, protesters chanted “No kings, no crowns” and brandished signs that offered slogans like “Resist Fascism” and “Jesus would be flipping tables at this point.” According to national reports, more than 5 million protestors are estimated to have participated, a stark contrast to the empty seats at Trump’s birthday-military parade.
