Rick Barnes is hiring Amorrow Morgan to his Tennessee basketball staff as an assistant coach. Morgan spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Cal before being hired at Florida State on April 6 by first-year coach Luke Loucks. He instead will join the Vols staff for Barnes' 11th season. The Memphis native joins Gregg Polinksy , Bryan Lentz and Lucas Campbell as assistant coaches. Justin Gainey is entering his fourth season as the associate head coach. He fills the vacancy created by Rod Clark's departure for an assistant coach role at Indiana . Morgan, 37, his coaching career at the University of Illinois-Springfield in 2013-14. He spent a season at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, and two seasons at Henderson State in Arkansas. He jumped to Nicholls State for the 2017-18 season before a three-year stint at South Alabama from 2018-21 and a two-year run with Loyola Chicago from 2021-23. Loyola Chicago reached the NCAA Tournament in 2022 with Morgan on coach Drew Valentine’s staff. Morgan played at Idaho State and was a two-time All-Big Sky guard and three-time team captain. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 10.7 points in his career. He had a career-best 16.6 points and 3.7 rebounds in the 2009-10 season, while shooting 36.7% on 3-pointers. He played three years professionally in Europe before pivoting into a coaching career. Morgan graduated from Cordova High School then played a year at the Patterson School in Olin, North Carolina.
