State Rep. John Cabello is calling for Gov. JB Pritzker's resignation and the creation of an Illinois DOGE. The Rockford Police Department officer and Machesney Park resident said in a news release Wednesday that the governor's policies are "are running this state into the ground." Cabello recently introduced House Bill 1266 that would create an Illinois version of Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency. “Illinois residents deserve a government that is transparent, efficient, and accountable,” Cabello said. “That’s why I introduced legislation to create the Illinois Department of Government Efficiency — because unlike Gov. Pritzker, I believe we should be cutting waste and prioritizing the needs of working families — rather than growing bureaucracy and reckless spending.” Trump's DOGE is presiding over mass terminations in an effort to cut federal government and oversight. Cabello's proposal would create a bi-partisan advisory board “to provide recommendations or strategies for state leaders” under the office of the auditor general. During his budget address Wednesday, Pritzker proposed a balanced budget that would grow state spending by about $2 billion without instituting new income or service taxes in the next fiscal year. It is an estimated 3% increase to general fund spending to about $55.2 billion total. "In 2019 CNBC’s list of Top States for Business ranked Illinois 30 th out of 50 states. Today we’re 15 th ," Prtizker said in prepared remarks. "Our economy is over $1.1 trillion and growing – the fifth largest in the United States and the 18th largest in the world. We’re now ranked number two in the nation for corporate expansions and relocation destinations. You can see that progress, from Du Quoin to Decatur to Manteno to Belvidere."
