Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese recorded the first triple-double of her career in Chicago’s 78-66 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.Reese finished the win with 11 points, 13 rebounds and a career-high 11 assists, as the Sky overcame an early 8-0 deficit to pick up just their third victory of the season. When Reese recorded her 10th assist with 2:46 remaining in the fourth quarter, she put both of her hands up, holding up her 10 fingers, as she ran back down the floor to celebrate the feat. She said someone had provided her with notice that she needed just one more assist to reach double-digits.“(I’m) trying to get back to being super versatile,” Reese said. “And (coach Tyler Marsh) made that emphasis early on in the season. And I didn’t understand it, and I really was kinda confused and trying to figure it out. I’m still figuring it out. But I have patience.“I’m just super excited, and then to add it with a win just feels really good.”Reese has 30 double-doubles in her career, but she had never previously had more than five assists in a game. Reese, a 2024 All-Star, had assists to six different players. Not only was it Reese’s first career triple-double, but it was only the second triple-double of the 2025 WNBA season. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark recorded a triple-double in Indiana’s season-opener against Chicago. It was also the first triple-double for a Chicago Sky player since 2023.Reese is playing more on the perimeter in Marsh’s first year as Chicago’s head coach. The former Las Vegas Aces assistant has entrusted the 6-foot-3 big to push pace in transition and screen and dive on offense in the half court.“The best attribute of our bigs is their ability to pass, and the willingness to pass,” Marsh said.Reese and the Sky snapped a three-game losing streak on Sunday, picking up their first win since veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot sustained an ACL tear on June 6. After scoring in double figures only four times in her first six games, Reese has scored at least 10 points in each of Chicago’s last three games. Marsh said Chicago is playing more through its post since Vandersloot suffered her knee injury.Reese entered Sunday’s game averaging 10.3 points and a league-leading 11.8 rebounds, though both are slightly down from her All-Star rookie season.Rookie guard Hailey Van Lith also recorded the best game of her first WNBA season in the win. Van Lith, the No. 11 pick in April’s draft, scored a career-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in 25 minutes of action.“I felt like if I could just carry over a calm state of mind where I’m literally just playing instinctually, that was my goal today,” Van Lith said.Reese said the Sky entered Sunday’s game “desperate” for a victory. The win was also Chicago’s first in Commissioner’s Cup play. The Sky will finish their five-game Commissioner’s Cup schedule Tuesday against the Washington Mystics.“I think our ability to overcome adversity is something that continues to stick out,” Marsh said. “We’re able to see a bigger picture and a higher purpose for what we’re doing and what we’re believing in and we’re staying true to that. Our connectivity is just kinda what’s carrying us right now.”
