The winds of change are sweeping through Annapolis as the city commences enforcement of its gas-powered leaf blower ban, which was initially set in motion earlier this year. Today marks the end of a grace period that allowed residents to adjust to the new ordinance without facing immediate fines, as per WMAR2 News . The ban aims to reduce noise and air pollution emanating from these tools and coax individuals and businesses towards adopting electric alternatives. According to officials, the rules are now officially being applied, and violators must pay up if they do not comply.

Since the start of the year, Annapolis has prohibited gas-powered leaf blowers in terms of legislation passed by the City Council. The ordinance, known as "Ordinance 28-23," was designed to enhance the quality of life by cutting down on primary factors contributing to local noise and air pollution. As explained in a statement released by the City of Annapolis , residents were given a grace period before April 1, during which they received warnings instead of fines. Now, the penalties are set in motion, with municipal fines applied to those not aligned with the new standard.

In residential areas, the city has mandated that noise levels not exceed 55 decibels during the daytime, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and 55 decibels during the quiet of nighttime, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Annapolis’ office, mixed-use, commercial, and industrial districts each have their respective noise level allowances, depending on their designation. These limitations are being instituted to maintain peaceful environments for all city dwellers.

In terms of compliance, city officials are urging residents not to confront individuals violating the ban directly. Instead, they should report violations by emailing [email protected] , including pertinent details such as the address and time of the offense.
