An Anne Arundel County man has been charged with hit and run, among other offenses, after his vehicle struck a Maryland State Police car on Route 50. The incident occurred in Annapolis, and the driver, identified as Ryan Daniel Heim, 27, was arrested following the collision.

According to the Maryland State Police official report , Heim was the sole occupant of a Chevy Silverado and is being accused of several charges, including second-degree assault, transportation of a handgun on a person, and fleeing and eluding. Heim, now held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center, was unharmed and is set to soon appear before a court commissioner.

The sequence of events began shortly after 1:30 a.m. when Heim allegedly pulled in front of an unmarked patrol vehicle and reversed suddenly, colliding with the front end and then fleeing the scene. The Maryland State Trooper, who was working on an assignment for the Maryland Department of Transportation, State Highway Administration at the time, was not injured.

The pursuit of Heim continued eastbound on Route 50 until the Anne Arundel County Police Department safely stopped the vehicle using stop sticks near Olivia Lane and Glenns Road in Severna Park just before 1:40 a.m. Following the arrest, officers recovered a loaded handgun from within Heim's vehicle.
