The Anne Arundel Police Department activated six speed cameras across several school zones Tuesday, according to a news release, bringing the department closer to achieving its goal of installing 40 cameras across the county .

While cameras began recording Tuesday, citations will not be issued until after a 15-day warning period ends May 13. Before Tuesday’s announcement, 25 cameras were already active. The six additional cameras bring the total to 31, with 13 more on the way, including another one at Van Bokkelen Elementary School on Reece Road.

Other planned locations include Glen Burnie High School on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, Chesapeake High School on Mountain Road, Southern High School and Southern Middle School on Solomans Island Road, as well as several elementary schools and middle schools.
