20,000 jobs may soon be coming to Northern Virginia! Apple is currently considering the location for a new campus location.

Amazon isn't the only tech giant considering Northern Virginia for an office location. Apple is currently looking for a place for its new campus, which will bring 20,000 jobs with it. The company wants to invest $350 billion to build a four-million-square-foot office space. This is estimated to be half of the size of Amazon's future second headquarters. Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has proposed sites in Alexandria, Crystal City, Loudoun County (near the Center for Innovative Technology), and Tysons for the campus. Northam has also proposed the Crystal City and Loudoun County location to Amazon so there may soon be a battle to build tech companies in the DMV area. In fact, some predict the DMV area may become the East Coast version of Silicon Valley.
While nothing is decided by Apple yet, they are taking a markedly different approach than Amazon.
"From our point of view, we didn't want to create this contest, because I think what comes out of that is you wind up putting people through a ton of work to select one, so that is a case where you have a winner and a lot of losers. I don't like that," Apple chief executive Tim Cook said.
In a press release, Apple stated they have already created over two million jobs in the United States before this new campus was announced. Some believe Apple is building a campus in the United States due to a history of outsourcing to China and dodging taxes. Apple also stated in their press release that they will pay a one-time tax of $38 billion. "A payment of that size would likely be the largest of its kind ever made," they said. We will have to wait for now to see if either Apple or Amazon picks the DMV area to build an office location. What do you think? Do you want tech companies to come to the area?
