Murphy-Bunting will not play in 2025 after sustaining an offseason knee injury that required surgery.
The
Arizona Cardinals placed cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting on the non-football injury reserve last week, ending his season before it even started. We did not know what happened. We still do not know exactly what occurred, but head coach Jonathan Gannon gave some insight when he addressed the media on Wednesday before the beginning of voluntary OTAs. "(It) happened in the off season (and he) had to have surgery to get it fixed," Gannon told reporters, "So he won't be able to play this year. It's a tough break for him, a tough break for us, but we'll move forward and so will he." He did not elaborate further but did indicate it was a knee injury. Murphy-Bunting remains under contract, although the team is not obligated to pay him in 2025. It is uncertain yet whether they will honor the contract, pay him something less or not pay him at all. He is under contract through 2026. His spot on the offseason roster, as of Wednesday morning, had not been filled.
