The Arizona State Sun Devils football team finished with its highest final ranking in a post-season poll in nearly 30 years. The Associated Press released its final college football Top 25 poll of the season Tuesday and you don't have to scroll down far to find the Arizona State Sun Devils, who finished the season 11-3 overall with an appearance in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. ASU football is ranked No. 7 in the poll, its highest ranking in the AP poll since it finished ranked No. 4 after the 1996 season, when it last played in the Rose Bowl, losing to Ohio State. The Sun Devils are also ranked No. 7 in the US LBM Coaches Poll . USA Today sports also ranked the Sun Devils at No. 7 to close out the season. Kenny Dillingham's team rose three spots from the final regular season AP poll after its 39-31 loss to Texas in the Peach Bowl on Jan. 1. Not bad for a team that entered the season ranked last in the Big 12 preseason poll. College football Top 25 rankings 2025: Should Arizona State football be a Top 10 team? Texas, which lost to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal game, 28-14, finished the season No. 4 in the AP ranking. Ohio State, which beat Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff national championship game, 34-23, ended the year ranked No. 1, with Notre Dame at No. 2. Oregon, which lost to Ohio State in the playoffs, was No. 3. Penn State came in at No. 5, with Georgia at No. 6. Boise State (No. 8), Tennessee (No. 9) and Indiana (No. 10) rounded out the Top 10. The Big 12 had four teams ranked, with BYU (No. 13), Iowa State (No. 15) and Colorado (No. 25) joining ASU in the AP ranking.
