It was another road game and another slow start from which the Arizona State men's basketball team could not recover as the Sun Devils were dealt a 67-60 loss by Cincinnati in Big 12 play Saturday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena. ASU (11-7, 1-5) trailed 36-22 at the half, shooting just 24% (7-for-29). The Sun Devils trailed by as many as 12, but cut the Bearcats lead to four at 24-20, only to give up a 12-2 run the rest of the half. The first 20 minutes featured a stretch of more than six minutes in which ASU did not score a point. It was the worst half of the season for the Sun Devils. The second half didn't start any better. In fact, Cincinnati (12-5, 2-4) pulled out to a 17-point lead, 44-27. Again ASU made a run and got within four points twice, the latter coming on a dunk by Jayden Quaintance that made it 52-48. The Sun Devils could get no closer. ASU had 14 turnovers with Cincinnati scoring 17 points off those. Quaintance managed his fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds to go along with five blocked shots. He turned the ball over six times. Alston Mason added 13 points and B.J. Freeman 12. Cincinnati, which shot 41.7% (25-for-60) for the game, had four players in double figures led by Dillon Mitchell with 14 points. For the fourth time in five outings ASU was down to using seven players with true freshman Joson Sanon out nursing an ankle injury. Freeman also went down with what looked like a knee injury with nine minutes left. He was helped off, unable to put any weight on his leg and returned with a brace on his knee.
