A man was shot and killed by SWAT officers on Jacksonville's Westside, following a standoff that extended for several hours yesterday night, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The situation began when law enforcement responded to an incident involving a 44-year-old man, later identified as Calixto Beavenutti. According to News4Jax , Beavenutti was attempting to enter a neighboring residence on Lenox Avenue while armed, which culminated in the fatal shooting. The nature of the altercation or what incited the events remains undisclosed.

Earlier that evening, at around 8 p.m., Beavenutti had reportedly gotten into a verbal altercation with officers. "The man never pointed it at them at this time," spokesperson Parker said regarding Beavenutti's possession of a firearm, as noted in an article by First Coast News . The unfolding situation prompted officers to call for the SWAT team.

Upon SWAT's arrival, they noted that Beavenutti discharged his gun once. Parker added, "We don't know at this time if he shot at SWAT or not, that's part of the investigation, but he did fire one round when they got on scene," as mentioned by First Coast News . The officers on scene had encountered Beavenutti earlier, when he refused to exit the house he had barricaded himself in, which escalated to the eventual deadly outcome.
