The City and Borough of Sitka has put out a statement about recent discrepancies in electricity meter readings. Leaders in Sitka are assuring customers that any billing discrepancies have been rectified. Sitka is also working to upgrade to new RF and cellular technology meters, to eliminate the potential for human error during meter readings.

Also in Sitka, the Tlingit Clan Houses are on the 2024 list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places . The National Trust for Historic Preservation just released that list with the hopes that communities will come together to protect the cultural landmarks, treasured local businesses, and traditions. The trust says the clan houses are not just physical structures but part of the area’s heritage and identity.

The City of Fairbanks Fire Departmen t will soon receive a new fire truck. Engine 3, made by the Rosenbauer Group, is equipped with a 30,000 BTU pump heater for cold winter calls. The pumper also features a 500-gallon water tank, and a 30-gallon foam cell..

The Unalaska Raiders are celebrating the awards they received at the Native Youth Olympics tournament held in Anchorage. KUCB reports a total of 14 Unalaska student-athletes attended the state competition and won some first-place titles. Together, they placed fifth overall for team awards.
