Aryna Sabalenka faces defending champ Danielle Collins in the round of 16.
World No. 1
Aryna Sabalenka moved into the fourth round at the
Miami Open on Saturday after Elena-Gabriela Ruse retired with an injury. Sabalenka had wrapped up the first set, 6-1 when Ruse signalled an end to the proceedings. In her opening round, top-seed Sabalenka made short work of Viktoriya Tomova, beating the Bulgarian in just 58 minutes. Collins, a Florida native was tested by Swiss qualifier Rebeka Masarova in their third-round matchup. The plucky Masarova, who was making her Miami Open main draw debut stretched the defending champion to three sets. Collins had to work hard to secure a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win, which took 2 hours and 24 minutes to complete. The 31-year-old
Danielle Collins will clash with her nemesis, Aryna Sabalenka, for a spot in the last eight. Collins is yet to defeat Sabalenka in any of their six meetings at WTA events. Collins’ sluggish start to the season could hamper her chances of progress at home. Sabalenka has also enjoyed near-complete dominance over Collins in WTA 1000 events, losing just one set to the American in three meetings at this level.
Match Details
Danielle Collins risks having her nine-match winning streak ended when she faces Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round. Collins was an improbable winner at last year’s Miami Open when, as a World No. 53 became the lowest-ranked player to win the title in the event’s history. The American faces Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round and heads into her clash on the backfoot. The Belarusian leads Collins 6-0 in their head-to-head and more importantly, leads her rival 4-0 on hard courts.
Coco Gauff and
Naomi Osaka are looking to make their mark at the Miami Open and could challenge whoever advances in the Sabalenka-Collins clash. Gauff is yet to drop a set, and Osaka subdued an inspired Hailey Baptiste to make the fourth round. Sabalenka or Collins will face Florida native Coco Gauff or 2022 Miami Open finalist Naomi Osaka in the semifinals.

Match Prediction
Sabalenka holds all the cards heading into her fourth-round clash with Collins. Although the American is the defending champion, she has yet to register a win over Sabalenka in her career. Sabalenka is 6-0 against the American, going back to their first meeting in 2018. The
US Open has been the playground for three of those wins. While both players display aggression in equal measure, Sabalenka is in better form and is on 19-4 this year, while Collins is just 5-3. The support of her home fans may not be enough to take Collins home against Sabalenka. A great match between the two power hitters will keep the spectators entertained, but it is Sabalenka who will carry the day.
Result: Sabalenka will win in straight sets.
