Aspen on a Budget:

Aspen is infamously known for the rich and famous. What isn’t fair is that you’re basically a self-proclaimed celebrity, but there is just one thing holding you back from having your dirty martini with your new neighbor, Kate Hudson. Your budget. Like you, I enjoy the finer things in life and have the taste of a Ferrari but the budget of a Honda. That’s why I have found how you and I can stay and enjoy Aspen at a price that’s affordable. How to get there:

Aspen is a quick 4-hour drive through the Rocky Mountains from Denver. Luckily, if you’re traveling from within the state, it is possible to get there by car. If you’re flying in from another state, it is recommended that you fly directly into the Aspen airport. While it can be more pricey than flying into Denver International Airport, it is more convenient and you won’t have to rent an expensive car in addition to driving that rental 4 or more hours to Aspen. It is important to cut costs wherever possible when trying to do Aspen on a budget. Aspen on a Budget

Now that you’re there, where do you stay?

The St. Moritz Lodge is an affordable European-style lodge that is quiet and comfortable. It costs an average of $76 per night, a price you can’t beat anywhere. I know what you’re thinking; at such a good deal, it’s probably too good to be true. While it’s not your typical Ritz Carlton, it surely does its job. The best part? It’s only two blocks away from Aspen’s convenient transportation system and the FREE skier shuttle. Talk about Aspen on a budget! The room is clean and comfortable, and there is a delicious complimentary continental breakfast every morning. To top it off, it also has an outdoor heated pool and hot tub! Keep in mind, the lodge definitely has its own unique character, but it’s well worth it when it’s within your Aspen budget. Aspen on a Budget

Where do you eat?

I could state the obvious suggestion for those on a budget, which would be to go to a local grocery store and buy your own food to save money, but where’s the fun in that? Personally, I have had too many turkey sandwiches to count and I believe that when traveling, local restaurants and dining experiences can change your entire vacation. Therefore, I have found the best and CHEAPEST happy hour that still allows you to do Aspen on a budget. Locals love the happy hour at The Limelight hotel. Menu selections include $10 pizzas, $3 Bud Light, $4 draft beers, $6.50 house wines, and $8 specialty cocktails. They also feature $10 Whiskey flights AND Thursday-Monday they have live music from some of Aspen’s favorite local bands from 6:30-10:30pm. Happy hour runs from 3-7pm. Aspen on a Budget Another local favorite that’s easy on the checkbook is Jimmy Bodega’s. Their happy hour is from 3:30-5:30, so be prepared for an earlier dinner! Their menu features a classic $8 margarita, $3 Tecate, and $8 Prosecco, but more importantly a phenomenal cheeseburger for just $12 and much much more!   The most important thing to remember when doing Aspen on a budget is that almost all restaurants have a happy hour. Make sure to do your research before traveling so you can be sure to save some extra cash!

What do you do while in Aspen?

You already know the number one activity to do in Aspen, but just in case you’ve been living on Mars I will let you know that skiing is the main attraction. Skiing on the cheap is nearly impossible, but if it is something you’re interested in adding to your weekend getaway, there is a way you can do it without spending your entire life savings. If you purchase your lift ticket ahead of time, it saves you money. Also, if you buy multiple days it tends to be cheaper. If you ski in the early season (November 24th-December 18th), a two-day pass will cost you around $148 (saving you $44). A normal one day pass will cost you around $125. Keep in mind the food is very pricey, so if you plan on going cheap I suggest you pack a turkey sandwich.   If skiing isn’t in your budget, the next best thing would be taking a hike in Maroon Bells. Maroon Bells is one of the most photographed places in the world due to its unimaginable beauty. There are easy and moderate paths, but both provide the same amazing view. Take in everything that Colorado has to offer at absolutely no cost. That’s the cheapest way to do Aspen on a budget.
