KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The weather streak we are currently in is nothing short of spellbinding. It just doesn’t get much better than 70s, sunshine, light winds, and low humidity. We want to get Friday and Saturday on your radar, as we are First Warning both days as a powerful storm system arrives. With it comes very high winds, a chance for severe thunderstorms, and a 20°+ drop in temperatures. Starting with Wednesday, we kick it off with morning temperatures in the mid-40s. This is pretty warm for this time of year for morning low temperatures, and it leads to a very warm afternoon with mid-70s. It will be a nearly perfect day, with sunshine and light northeast breezes to accompany the mild weather. Thursday is much the same, though even a bit warmer with highs in the upper 70s. The record high is 82, and while we don’t currently expect to hit it, we aren’t out of striking distance from it. Friday brings the mood down a little, as the potent low pressure system we are tracking will develop and move over our area. While it’s still warm with upper 70s, everyone will notice the wind. It will gust from the southeast at 40-55 mph. This is high enough for potential power loss. On top of that, scattered storms look to form from 4-10 pm. A few of these could be severe, with hail, 60+ mph winds, and even an isolated tornado warning possible. The chance for rain in any one spot is 40%, so we are not expecting everyone to get slammed. But where it rains, it could come with a few strong storms. The rain is gone by Saturday, but the wind will still crank to 30-40 mph. We also cool significantly but because we are so warm this week, it only drops us back to what’s normal for this time of the year. Highs will be in the mid-50s. Sunday brings mor mid-50s, but it will be better with sunshine and lighter breezes. 70s pop right back up for St. Patty’s Day!
