May 27—A Tucumcari man wanted for attempted murder and other charges was captured last week in Albuquerque after several days on the run.

The Tucumcari Police Department in a social media post on Wednesday reported that Julian Martinez, 19, was taken into custody in Albuquerque by New Mexico State Police.

"TPD would like to publicly thank NMSP as well as the Quay County Sheriff's Office for their coordinated assistance in apprehending this fugitive," the post stated.

According to online court records, Martinez was booked early Thursday into the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque. He then was transferred to the Quay County Detention Center on Friday.

In Bernalillo County, Martinez also was charged with receipt, transportation or possession of a firearm or destructive device by a serious violent felon and receiving stolen property (firearm).

The complaint states Martinez was spotted at an apartment with another man who also had an active arrest warrant.

During an execution of a search warrant at the apartment, officers found two handguns, including one stolen from the Gallup area.

Martinez was charged on May 18 with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery against a household member (strangulation or suffocation) after a stabbing in the 900 block of South Monroe Street.

Attempted murder is a second-degree felony that can lead up to 15 years in prison and a fine up to $20,000.

According to the criminal complaint by city police officer Tyler Davis, Franchesca Saiz and Diego Rubio were told by Dominique Blea that Martinez was beating up her friend, Marianna Saiz, who is Franchesca's daughter.

They went to Marianna Saiz's apartment and entered, where Martinez stabbed Rubio in the stomach repeatedly, the complaint stated. Franchesca Saiz said no words were exchanged before Martinez attacked Rubio.

While trying to stop Martinez's attack, Franchesca Saiz said she grabbed the knife and took it from him, cutting herself.

Blea told police she saw Martinez hit Marianna Saiz, slam her head into a door and begin to choke her, the complaint states.

Marianna Saiz was able to free herself and went to a neighbor's house for safety.

Rubio was taken to Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari for treatment. The complaint did not state his condition, but an earlier post by the TPD stated that both stabbing victims were in stable condition.

According to online court records, Martinez is scheduled to make his first appearance in Tucumcari magistrate court this week.

The 10th Judicial District Attorney's Office in Tucumcari filed motion on Thursday, asking a judge to jail Martinez without bond until his case is adjudicated. It stated "no release condition imposed on the Defendant will reasonably protect the safety of any other person or the community."

The motion also cited Martinez's previous criminal history, including a conviction for aggravated assault last year, and accused him of being a flight risk.

A hearing on the pretrial motion is set for Thursday. Public defender Levi Chavez is listed as his attorney.
