Attend the Around the World Embassy Tours and European Union Embassies Open House Tours to explore international cultures.
Ever wondered what the inside of the beautiful and intricate embassies looked like? Now's your chance to find out! On May 5 and 12, Cultural Tourism DC will be kicking off their annual embassy tours. Both of these events are part of PassportDC, a month-long initiative to showcase international culture. This is an amazing opportunity for visitors to travel the world while staying right in the city.Around the World Embassy Tours
When: Saturday May 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Where: At over 40 participating embassies across Washington, D.C. Cultural Tourism DC will announce their original meeting place seven days before the event. The group says they usually meet at a Metro station and then heads over to the embassies together. Cost: FREE, many of the embassies do require photo ID to enter. Register: While you can just show up the day of, Cultural Tourism DC asks that you register ahead of time here to receive information and updates about the event. This year, over 40 embassies will be offering tours to the public of their buildings. The embassies will often showcase their food, art, dance and music for visitors as they stroll around the buildings during the Around the World Embassy Tour event. In past years, embassies have even done karate demonstrations, sari wrapping classes and more. With many fun activities at each embassy, it is expected that most visitors can see around five embassies during the event.
Participating embassies include Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Barbados, Brazil, Guatemala, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and more!

This year, all 28 European Union Member countries and the Delegation of the European Commission to the United States will be participating, including Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
These embassy tours are sure to be popular! According to Cultural Tourism DC, "In 2017, more than 200,000 people enjoyed the popular embassy open houses, street festivals, performances, exhibitions, workshops, and more."
