Aurora Public Schools will be back in session starting August 8, and there are several great "back to school" events happening in preparation -- all on Saturday, August 5!
The lazy days of summer are quickly coming to an end! The 10th annual Back to School Kickoff will occur Saturday, August 5, from 10 a.m. till 12:30 p.m., at the Town Center at Aurora mall. The event provides backpacks to APS students (while supplies last) and offers immunizations as needed. Register kiddos for school, meet school staff, receive school information, and explore available resources for your family! This event is only for students who will be attending Aurora Public Schools. Make sure you bring your children's shot records, if you're planning to get immunizations.
While you're there, stop by the "Back to School We Go!" event in the mall's Center Court by the elevators. Sponsored by the mall's KidX Club and Bonfils Blood Center, the event is held in conjunction with the APS Back to School Kickoff and will give kids ages 3 to 10 the opportunity to customize their own backpacks, folders, notebooks, and more at special "customization stations." Bonfils will also be available to educate guests about what they do. Participation in this event is only for KidX Club members, however, membership is free, and you can sign up at the registration table while you're there!
Then, give your kids one last summer hurrah at the Back to School Carnival, August 2-6, also at the Town Center at Aurora, in the parking lot. Operated by Wagner's, the carnival offers a variety of entertainment for all ages, including kiddie rides for little ones and giant thrill rides for the older kids and adults. Your kids will love getting all their thrills and wiggles out before buckling down and getting back into school mode the following week.
The first day of school for grades 6-12 is Tuesday, August 8, while the first day for grades 1-5 is Thursday, August 10. Kindergarteners don't start until the following Monday, August 14. Check out the Aurora Public Schools website for information specific to your school!
