Dating back to mid-November, criminals have been targeting black residents and interracial couples at the Sonoma Resort at Saddle Rock apartments in Aurora. The criminals have been spray painting racial slurs and leaving threatening notes on residents doors. Aurora Police are increasing efforts to put a stop to the hate crimes. Police have reported investigating at least nine of these hate crimes in the past almost-month, notably after the election. Resident’s doors have been tagged with “KKK” and notes containing threats and the n-word have been left as well. As detectives continue their efforts to investigate the situation, Aurora Police department are stepping up their efforts to put a stop to the persistent hate crimes. These hate crimes have left residents of color and various religious backgrounds terrified and fearing for their safety. The victims are keeping their identities private in fear of retaliation from the criminals. One of the notes left threatened a resident and suggested they “Watch their back…” Definitely not something you want to see on the doorstep of your home. These cases have sprung the Aurora police department into action, increasing patrols and staying diligent. A department spokesperson said this is a top priority for investigators.
