High schoolers will remain fully remote until November 16.

Aurora Public Schools (APS) notified parents and community members on Monday, October 19, that high school classes, which were scheduled to return for in-person learning on Tuesday, October 20, would remain fully remote. As COVID-19 cases in the state continue to rise, the safety of staff and students remained a concern. In-person classes have been delayed until November 16. They hope to know by November 9 whether or not that start date will be feasible.

APS is operating on a hybrid cohort model, which sees students divided into three groups: Cohort A, Cohort B, and fully remote. The A and B cohort groups rotate weeks in the classroom and spend the off-week remote learning.

The district has already restored preschool through 8th-grade students to the classroom following the hybrid learning model. The district employed a staggered start to bring students back, and high school was the last group scheduled to return to physical classes.

Currently, the district will continue to hold in-person classes (with that hybrid model) for preschool through 8th grade and plans to decide what will happen with those by Thursday, October 22.

The district will continue to provide grab-and-go meals for students at APS "Grab and Go" locations. Students who are receiving in-person support for special needs and circumstances will continue to do so. Some athletic workouts will be permitted, and clubs and other activities will continue to be provided remotely.
