World-renowned pianist Simone Dinnerstein will join the Boulder Philharmonic for an incredible concert on January 13 and 14.

Celebrating yet another achievement in its 60th season, the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra will welcome pianist Simone Dinnerstein for the Colorado premiere of Philip Glass's Piano Concerto No. 3, a Bach-inspired piece that Glass composed especially for Dinnerstein. The program, called "Bach Transfigured," will be performed both January 13 and 14 at two venues in the greater Denver metro area.

Bach. So, when famous American composer Philip Glass offered -- over breakfast in 2014 -- to write a piano concerto as a tribute to Dinnerstein's strengths, she was "thrilled and honored," having long looked up to the composer, who is notoriously known as one of the late 20th century's most influential musicians. The concert program will feature Glass's Piano Concerto No. 3, with Dinnerstein on piano and the Boulder Phil in accompaniment.
"Notably, this is one of the first concertos written specifically for piano and strings since Bach’s time... Dinnerstein’s touch transformed; at other times, the Criers couldn’t take their eyes off her as she played. Her sensitive touch, clarity, and never-ending depth of colors left the audience transfixed and heart-shattered." -- Rachael Fuller, The Boston Musical Intelligencer, after Dinnerstein and Boston group A Far Cry premiered the piece in September
Keeping with the Bach theme, the concert will also include a Dinnerstein/Boulder Phil collaboration on the Concerto for Keyboard and Strings in G Minor, by J.S. Bach, as well as the Boulder Phil's performances of C.P.E. Bach's Symphony in C Major and Schoenberg's Transfigured Night.  To listen to a snippet of the featured piece by Glass, click here.
