MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The November 5, 2024, election has several seats up for grabs. One of those is the U.S. House District 5 (Louisiana) race. Voters may notice they are voting in a different district than in previous elections. This is because the Louisiana congressional districts were redrawn and passed by the legislature in February 2024. The new map faced legal challenges, but the U.S. Supreme Court issued a stay order in May 2024. This meant the map would be used for the 2024 election cycle. The Louisiana House of Representatives is responsible for working with the state Senate in consideration of proposed laws, regulations, and constitutional amendments for submission to the voters. The groups are also responsible for appropriating funds to operate the state’s government. Bills for raising revenue considered by the legislature have to originate in the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives can bring impeachment charges against a statewide officer, and the charges are then tried by the Senate.
