Good news and bad news for Baltimore commuters: the current shutdown should end by March 11, but another one is planned for the summer.

Baltimore’s subway system has been entirely shutdown for two weeks so that maintenance crews can make emergency repairs. But, as commuters’ frustration has continued to mount, the MTA recently announced that the system should reopen on March 11. Unfortunately, what the MTA has been quiet about is the fact that more maintenance work needs to be done, which means another shutdown. This time, it'll happen over the summer.  Between July 23 and August 12 there will be no service between the Milford Mill and Mondawmin stations. Despite the disappointment that many riders may feel upon hearing the news, the MTA will provide free shuttle bus service during the 21-day shutdown.
The MTA is advising commuters to be on the lookout for further notifications closer to the scheduled track work. Commuters who travel from Reisterstown Plaza, Rogers Avenue and West Cold Spring should be prepared to make alternate travel plans via bus and other means of transportation. As for the current shutdown of the entire system, the MTA has promised to look into reopening parts of the system as work is completed. The Governor’s office has provided $2.2 million in emergency funds for free shuttle buses until the shutdown has ended.  Click here to visit the MTA’s website for information about bus bridges, alternative routes, and shutdown updates. What do you think? Has the shutdown had an impact on your travels? Let us know in the comments below, and let's get the conversation started. Safe travels!
