We all have a nerdy side. Turns out, there's a place in Baltimore that's all nerdy, all the time! BAMF Café.
These days "nerd culture" has become mainstream. The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) has brought complex comic book stories to the big screen, and the Star Wars franchise, once a haven for space opera fanatics and gamers in the 80s, has become a pop cultural phenomenon like never before through its latest additions (making up for those much-maligned prequels, amirite?). So, where do you go when you want to indulge in your nerdiness? A comic book store? A movie theatre for the latest superheroic extravaganza? But what about a café? BAMF Café, which stands for Books, Action Figures, Movies and Friends, launched near Station North in October 2015. BAMF (also the sound Nightcrawler makes when he teleports!) caters to Baltimore's nerds, geeks, and casual superhero fans. Their menu, for example, boasts a litany of punny dishes referencing iconic proponents in geek culture: Penguin's Cold Brew, Butterbeer, the T-1000 sandwich, and the Salad of Highgarden are among just a few of their options.
The café is perfect for a variety of niches. Its menu carries vegan and vegetarian options worth bragging about, and it frequently hosts in-house movie marathons and TV watch parties. For example, they hosted two Twin Peaks watch parties with the new series premiere back in May. They've also held screenings of RuPaul's Drag Race and the nerdy staple Doctor Who.
But if there's any reason to visit BAMF, it's to see its ornamentation; the cafe is decorated from head to toe in geeky paraphernalia from a Jon Snow cut-out figure to action figures stacked near the store window! No matter which way you turn in the store, you'll find a detail, big or small—from film posters to DC Comics playing cards on the tables—that helps create the poppy, colorful atmosphere that makes the store so fun.
