HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - On Saturday, Care Cottages hosted its second annual Barrels of Care, raising money to help .

The organization serves children who are victims of abuse in Breathitt, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley, Perry, and Wolfe counties.

Auctioning off items from bourbon barrels and more, Jonah Gooch said they wanted to give folks a unique experience showcasing local artists and other pieces unique to the region.

“We’re very proud of the region that we serve here on this end of the state. You’ll notice that we tried to compliment that region and that Appalachian heritage and Kentucky heritage within our meal choice on our courses and the bourbon tasting within the drinks offered at the cash bar, and then all the artwork and general decoration of the fundraisers,” said Gooch.

Gooch said the fundraiser gives them more freedom to better help the children they serve.
