ALEXANDRIA — Two big swings made the difference in Friday’s game between the Alexandria Cardinals and the St. Francis Fighting Saints at Knute Nelson Memorial Park.

Cooper Fiskewold, who was also St. Francis’ starting pitcher, hit a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning and a solo home run in the top of the third inning to give St. Francis a 3-0 win on April 25, 2025.

“He did a nice job on the mound and his two home runs were the difference in the game,” Alexandria head coach Jake Munsch said. “In this game, we had more errors than we had in the last four games, but the guys have just been grinding, and multiple players have contributed.”

Fiskewold, a Nebraska-Omaha commit, struck out eight batters on Friday. The Fighting Saints (6-0) struck out 13 batters in their win over the Cardinals (5-2).

“We’re in a constant phase of piecing things together,” Munsch said. “Not having Sam Anderson and Evan Zabel in this game, but congrats to them on making it to the DECA International Career Development Conference. When they’re gone, other guys have to step up. It’s about taking advantage of opportunities.”

Alexandria came into the game on a 5-game winning streak.

“From our opening day loss to Cloquet to now, our pitching staff has done a phenomenal job,” Munsch said. “We’ve played really good defense. We just played a really good pitcher in this game and couldn’t get anything going offensively. But I'm really proud of the guys and how hard they worked, and very happy with so far with what we've done so far.”

Alexandria’s Kyle Blankenship struck out seven batters on Friday.

The Cardinals will have another busy week next week, starting with a game on the road against Moorhead at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
