caught in Montgomery County and relocated on Monday, Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources said. 11 News reported on Thursday that
residents of Pikesville, Randallstown, Columbia and Ellicott City reported bear sightings . The DNR said it believed the sightings were all one bear. The bear, a 1-year-old cub, made its way to Langley Park, a populated area in Silver Spring. DNR said it climbed a tree and drew a large crowd. “(The bear) went up a tree… and was first sedated by a dart fired by DNR staff. The bear slowly worked its way down the tree, and once on the ground and sedated, staff retrieved it for tagging and relocation,” Gregg Bortz, media relations manager for the DNR, told 11 News. The tagging involved a fitted collar, allowing it to be part of a University of Maryland bear population study. DNR previously said the bear had been dispersing — leaving the area it was born and searching for a new home to live the rest of its life. It has now been relocated to an undisclosed, “more suitable location nearby,” Bortz said.
