Chicago Bears offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo has an opportunity to make an immediate impact as a rookie, and he's prepared for whatever is thrown his way. Trapilo is prepared to play either tackle spot, depending on what the Bears feel is best. Whether it's competing with Braxton Jones at left tackle or plugging in at right tackle if the team elects to move Darnell Wright to left tackle. “I’ve known for a long time that I wanted to play in the NFL, and I’ve had great coaches that told me I had to be versatile, so throughout my career I’ve tried to make sure that both sides are sharp,” Trapilo told the Sun-Times on Friday. “Playing right tackle in college the last two years, obviously I’ve practiced more there as far as live reps, but after practice I got extra work in at left, just in case.” Trapilo started 24 games at right tackle for Boston College over the last two seasons, but he also has played left tackle, which gives him valuable versatility. But it's all a matter of where Chicago deems he's the best fit. General manager Ryan Poles seemed to indicate the Bears will try Trapilo out at left tackle to see if that's a good fit (as they already know he can play right tackle). If that's the case, Trapilo will compete with Jones (who will be limited to start training camp as he recovers from a fractured fibula) and Kiran Amegadjie for that starting left tackle job. The goal is to have this decided before training camp, so they won't have to shuffle guys around and competitions can take place. Head coach Ben Johnson said starting jobs won't be won until the pads come on in training camp, especially when it comes to the offensive line.
