Beautiful Colorado Beaches

Just because we’re landlocked doesn’t mean we can’t have nice beaches! Here are the nicest Colorado beaches that you’ll definitely want to visit.

Blue Mesa Reservoir

Colorado Beaches This is Colorado’s largest body of water, meaning lots of activities and beaches galore! A lot of the shoreline is rocky, but you’ll find great Colorado beaches at the Bay of Chickens, Dry Creek, and Old Highway 50 Beach. The water is always perfectly cool, so it’s a great place to refresh on a hot Colorado summer day.

Medano Creek

Colorado Beaches This is a really unique Colorado beach. At the base of the Sand Dunes, a creek emerges every spring and creates an oasis amid the closest thing to a desert you’ll find in Colorado. Come August, the creek disappears again, awaiting the spring snowmelt to reappear. As far as Colorado beaches go, the Sand Dunes offer lots of recreation. I highly recommend skimboarding down them - just be prepared to eat sand!

Chatfield State Park Reservoir

Colorado Beaches When you’re looking for beautiful scenery and the chance to bask in Colorado’s warm sun, you’ll want to head to Chatfield. It offers a pristine view of the foothills, something most Colorado beaches won’t give you. You can also camp on this beach, which is a really fun way to spend some summer evenings!

Grand Lake

Colorado Beaches The sparkling blue waters of Grand Lake make it the perfect beach destination in Colorado. Located on the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park, this is Colorado’s largest natural lake. The alpine waters are perfect for cooling off, and the lively Grand Avenue offers a perfect boardwalk experience.

Boulder Reservoir

Colorado Beaches Unobstructed views of the Boulder foothills make it difficult to believe this spot is only minutes from nearby cities. Like most Colorado beaches, Boulder Reservoir is a favorite day-trip spot for locals. It’s popular among sunbathers, runners, bikers, and swimmers alike. There’s plenty to do in the park once you’re done at the beach, so make sure you take some time to explore.

Jackson Lake State Park

Colorado Beaches Jackson Lake State Park is a veritable oasis among the eastern plains. The water is warm, unlike so many of our alpine or snowmelt-fed lakes, and the beaches are made of soft sand. There’s even the opportunity for treasure hunting here! The park is a popular geocaching location. Bring your GPS and get your pirate on!

Here are some tips to avoid being a jerk on the hiking trails this summer!
